Harry Bosch and LAPD Detective Renée Ballard come together again on the murder case that obsessed Bosch's mentor, the man who trained him---new from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly

Back when Harry Bosch was just a rookie homicide detective, he had an inspiring mentor who taught him to take the work personally and light the fire of relentlessness for every case. Now that mentor, John Jack Thompson, is dead, and his widow gives Bosch a murder book, one that Thompson took with him when he left the LAPD twenty years before -- the unsolved killing of a troubled young man.

Bosch takes the murder book to Detective Renée Ballard and asks her to help him discover what about this crime lit Thompson's fire all those years ago. As she begins her inqueries -- while still working her own cases on the midnight shift -- Ballad finds aspects of the initial investigation that just don't add up.

The bond between Bosch and Ballard tightens as they become a formidable investigation team. And they soon arrive at a disturbing question: Did Thompson steal the murder book to work the case in retirement, or to make sure it never got solved?
Written with the intense pacing and masterful suspense that have made Michael Connelly "the hard-boiled fiction master of our time" (NPR), The Night Fire continues the unofficial partnership of two fierce detectives determined not to let the fire with burn out.

  • The night fire

    Boring, unrealistic
  • Bosch and Ballard

I love the way the author has several main cases and weaves the every night call outs into the story Another hit with this winning team. Just when I thought crusty old detective Harry was out the game, Connelly puts heavy hitter Ballard in the game and successfully refreshes the series. Excellent!

Excellent. Although I am stressed to see Harry getting old and written out of the story. I aged right along with Harry as I read his stories. So, I also, must be getting old.

Several intriguing cases going on at the same time. Great connection between Bosch and Renee’. They work together and independent. Have read several Bosch detective stories and they don’t disappoint. A MUST READ.
  • Delightful

I surmise that, like me, many of you read several series like the Bosch series. Whether it be Child or Flynn, they have all provided enjoyment. Through the years I have found that the Bosch series continue to thrive and delight its readers while the others have become formulaic and boring. Mr Connelly provides interesting story lines and full character development. Still a joy to read.

I read every Connelly book...the minute they come out. As usual, he features sophisticated plot, and this book was no different. I kept me reading, finishing it faster than I wanted. There is constant action, and best of all he succeeds where lazy detectives flailed and ignore him on a case be ends up solving. Great fun read. Go for it!
  • Ballard & Bosch Do It Again

As someone who has read every single one of Michael Connelly’s books, I really love how many cases and people this one covered. Ballard already feels like a character that I’ve been reading about for years even though this is only her third book. She fits so well with Harry and Mickey and Michael does a tremendous job with the character development. The Night Fire ranks right up there with Connelly’s best.
